Another Clipper, Temp Double Dipper

Thanks to Bob Rhodes of Morganton, GA for sharing some pictures of the snow at his place on Monday. Keep the camera handy Bob, another couple of rounds may be heading your way.
Let's start with morning lows today which had gas and electric meters spinning like tops:
  • Athens, TN & Murphy NC 19
  • Dayton, TN & Ft. Payne, AL 21
  • Cleveland, TN & Dalton, GA 23
  • Chattanooga, TN & Rome, GA 24

On to clipper #1. This system should sweep in here later this afternoon as light showers for most areas. But it wouldn't surprise me if this begins as flurries or snow showers from Fall Creek Falls to near Crossville. Available moisture is lacking, so most areas only see .1" to .2" of liquid, or less. As this switches to snow showers and flurries I would expect at most:

  • Mountains only 1/4" to 1/2" possible.
  • Northern Valleys only 1/4" or less possible.
  • Everywhere Else, Light showers to flurries with no accumulation.

Mostly sunny, cold and breezy for Thursday with highs only in the upper 30s to lower 40s.

Clouds increase again on Friday with clipper #2. This system looks like it may grab more moisture as it approaches. And there is potential for this to be snow from start to finish. As usual the models seem to be back and forth on this one. So we'll watch this system closely as we get closer to that Friday night into Saturday morning time frame. Kids and teachers may be disappointed by the early weekend timing, but it could turn out to significant event for us. We'll see. One thing is sure, temps will be dipping twice tomorrow and especially this weekend. Highs on Saturday may only end up in the upper 30s in the valleys, only into the lower 40s Sunday afternoon.

By the way, wouldn't it be neat to watch the opening ceremonies for the Olympic Games with some hot chocolate in hand and some snow outside the window?
