Systems That Keep You On Your Toes
Meet Cassidy-Brackin Herd a 10 year old Pomeranian. Cassidy's picture was sent in for our "Puppy Love" photo segment we're showing on Channel 3 Eyewitness News Today this week and next week.
Friday night and early Saturday morning the door was opened to the chilly air that's currently over our heads right now. We had some snow flurries and a few weak snow showers on Signal Mountain Saturday. In fact there was enough to produce a touch of white on the rooftops Sunday morning. Today's weather-maker on paper looked pretty good yesterday. This morning we had sub-freezing temps and pretty dry air which usually would add up to a mixed bag of precip across the area. But so far nada on the winter type. Most of the reports thus far in our area have been all rain. While it may be possible for the mountains to still see something mixed, for all practical purposes this event is d.o.a..
The next wave to watch should slide in here from the northwest Wednesday night into Thursday morning, but only produce flurries and a few snow showers. It will be moisture starved, but it should be running into enough cold air for snow.
Another question mark hinted at by the models for Friday into Saturday.
I think I have been trying to drive home the point that this February would be two things. Colder than average for the month as a whole. And active with plenty of forecast challenges. So far it's been both. And I think Friday's system and the one this morning prove that. For example, one caller just before 9 am was very angry about not seeing any snow. "And as a person who works outside I can't depend on you." He hung up before I could ask where he was from, and even talk to him further about the weather. Not two minutes later Robin Barton our skywatcher from Resaca called to say he had "big, wet snowflakes really starting to come down at my place." I think most people understand we all try to get it right every day.
