Rainfall Odds Go Up Today Through Tuesday

Thanks this morning for this beautiful sunset shot sent in by Jimmy and Glenda Knapp of Soddy-Daisy. It is a gorgeous picture.

We had a very nice weekend across the area. Even though there were a lot of clouds each morning, it made excellent weather for the morning jog with Dudley. In fact the cloudy, cool conditions really made it feel like Fall. The air conditioning at my house was turned off on Friday and it was nice to have the windows open for the first time since early May. Most years I have been able to wait until Memorial Day to turn it on, but this year it seemed like it was the first week of May when we first turned it on.

Even more Autumn-like conditions are in store for us from Wednesday on. The front that helps stir up showers and a few thunderstorms from today through early tomorrow, will bring us VERY nice cool, dry air the rest of the week. So kids at the bus stop will need an umbrella Tuesday morning, and a light jacket Wednesday through Friday mornings.

Today: Some sun through the clouds today with scattered showers. High: 83

Tonight: Occasional showers and a few rumbles of thunder. Low: 68

Tuesday: Showery periods and a few storms. High: 81

Wednesday: Partly cloudy and pleasant. High: 82

Thursday: Sunny and nice. High:83

Friday: Mostly sunny and nice. High: 85

Tropical depression #6 will likely become "Florence" later today and is forecast to become a hurricane by Friday morning. This could become a major hurricane so it will have to be watched. But does this impact the U.S., or does it end up as a big "fish" storm?

On another note one of the first things I do every morning (after looking at the latest weather information) is scan the latest headlines. And I was saddened by the death of Steve Irwin, "The Crocodile Hunter". I grew up watching "Wild Kingdom" and if you remember some of the stunts Jim Fowler performed, they were pretty over the top for the day. I seem to recall one show when they were riding in an open jeep trying to lasso a rhinoceros. Steve Irwin seemed like a fun-loving guy who was genuinely concerned about animal and habitat conservation. Obviously, his schtick was really over the top, but in today's world it doesn't seem much more crazy than Jim and Marlin's show 30+ years ago. Because of his antics, rumors of his death popped up several times in the past. I wish this was another internet hoax.
